The Museum of Western Art was opened in the year 1983, and was first known as the Cowboy Artists of America Museum.

The museum changed its name to the National Center for American Western Art and then to the Museum of Western Art in 2003. The main aim of the museum is dedicated to excellence in the collection, preservation, and promotion of Western Heritage, education and cultural enrichment of diverse audiences. The museum uses the motto “Where the Legend Lives Forever”. The collection of the Museum of Western Art includes approximately 150 sculptures, 250 paintings and many artifacts.
